Sometimes i think of things in the form of images or colours...when i think of November, i think of the colour purple...november is purple...

In Israel, the rain usually begins in november...so when i started thinking about how i would design the month of november for Marianne's calendar swap...i kept coming up with purple rain.

Now youre probably thinking about Prince's song from the 80's...but when i looked it up, the connotations werent so good ;)...or maybe you are thinking about the book by Alice Walker..

...in the end i just went with my intuition and produced this set of collages...

I like how some of them came out looking like winter jumpers in their texture!

happy thursday everyone!!

Sonnet 18
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair some time declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimm`d;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breath or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Shakespeare

I first joined Mariannes calendar swap in july and chose the month of november...lots of ideas running round in my head...excited at the idea of doing something a bit different...then Paula came up with 'calendar swap ll' which i couldnt resist and this time i chose springtime may!! Time passes...(way too quickly)...and suddenly its october..i began making my calendars starting off with november then moving onto may and actually finishing it!!!

With lack of time, i ended up compromising...i wanted to do more...but i really enjoyed the opportunity to do something a little different...some collage mixed with painting and drawing and generally felt free to experiment and play...
Two weeks ago i sent out the may pages...so here they are...

So far i have received Risa's and Gracia and Louise's beautiful pages with added goodies...thank you so much! What a great collection its going to be!!

I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone for your lovely birthday wishes yesterday!! I enjoyed every one of them which put a smile on my face!!! xxx

Look who got lucky this week...

The lovely Maditi and i did a swap and i was lucky enough to receive some of her beautiful prints and a wonderful poster...i dont like pairs..i prefer odd numbers - so im going to seperate them out and have a piece of Maditi in each corner of our home!! Thank you so so much! xxx
If you havent visited Maditi's new shop...its a must!!!

By the way, this shot is taken with my Nikon (after Ella 'killed' the other camera, i have no choice but to start using this one!!! Obviously not meant to have a pair of cameras!) and the photos are lying on my newly collected 'old' table (originally from the US!!)

great photography link (found through simply photo) : roland bello

Happy thursday to you all!

A while ago the lovely Gwen and i decided on a little swap...i dont like specifying in my swaps..i love thinking of an idea to specifically suit the other person...so this gave me the excuse to paint some little bugs for the queen...
Remember the boxes with the 'alice in wonderland' pages..well, i put the bugs in a box with the text of a conversation between the catterpillar and alice...where she talks about him turning into a butterfly! You cant really see the text..but its there!!
Its amazing how much detail there are in these little insects when you look closely!!!

The bugs reached gwen safely today... :)

Thank you for all of your lovely wishes this weekend - i really appreciate it!!
I actually got a parcel in time for new year...this gorgeous, thoughtful autumn 5 senses pack from sweet Paula. It included an autumn collection cd, two very cute heart shaped lavendar filled 'hangy things' which are potato printed (great!!), some apple and cinnamon tea (yummy), the autumn issue of Marie Claire idees (thank you, thank you, thank you!!!) and some beautiful pods for my nature corner (LOVE!!!!) As well as this wonderful parcel..i love the way Paula adds the little details to the envelope with lines drawings and some rick-rack sewn in! BEIJOS!!!!!!!!

Moving slowly but surely into autumn...in the making - some parcels for Marianne, Maditi and Gwen, some more 'new species' and a new sculpture...

I still havent thought of a new name...nowhere near...

To start the week, some beginning of autumn links...

-hand of fatima - Maiden

-swedish storage chest - Maiden

-handmade quilts - Hand

-felt goods - Parma lilac

Have a wonderful, creative week everyone xx

Look to the moon when she is round,
Luck with you shall then abound;
What you seek for shall be found,
In sea or sky or solid ground. *
My parcel arrived safely in Japan...so now i can show you what i sent to Alex...

A visit was made to the post office for two parcels...one incoming from the lovely Marieke - what a perfect looking parcel it was - with so many beautiful stamps on the box...and inside a wonderful mixture of goodies including some 'found' papers, a gorgeous tin which i love, lovely ribbons and pins, a mini book, a wonderful vintage set of needles, a pretty handmade pin, a beautiful mug, a set of handmade letter stamps and a large copy of Mariekes wonderful gocco print! Thank you so much Marieke for all this Dutch loveliness!!! I LOVE getting parcels!!!!!!
This was part of my parcel to Marieke.

And one outgoing parcel to Alex ...well, you didnt expect to see it now, did you?!!!

Some more stamps - oh, i am so hooked on this stamp making!!!
This stamp was inspired by Sharis wonderful picture of mimosa seed pods

And finally, this week i finished an order for a painting to go in a little boys room...

I think thats just about it...have a wonderful weekend!!!

A while ago, Jo and I decided to do a swap together and seeing as we both have two little cutie girls, we decided to make something for them and something for mummy too! Today, Jo received my package in Australia, so I can show you what I sent...
Its an idea ive been thinking about for a while - making a series with the idea of 'A is for ...', 'B is for...' 'C is for...' and so on. I thought this would fit in so well for the girls, Beth and Alice. Also, my little boxes fit in well with the idea of a mini installation...

Each box one has a little poem or special quote inside.

This is the flower I made for Jo, made from just paper, wire and glue. It was inspired by Jo's 'yarn flower'.

I really enjoyed making them and making great friends...

A little while back, Stephanie and I decided to do an art swap - surprise piece of art. I made a piece with a bird (Anna's Hummingbird) because Stephanie loves birds! Anna's Hummingbird is made from paper mache and the twigs are made from wire and paper. I made some handmade paper, embroidered them and added beads. And then I attached the leaves to the branches, which grew outside of the wooden box.
I sent it off to her and a few days ago, before she recieved the package, she posted on her blog about birds with an amazing photo! When I saw the photo, I freaked out... Isnt that weird?!!!

Dacia was nice enough to let me into her Tag Swap at the last minute! After lots of faffing, cutting, pasting, binning (!) I came up with these. They were so much fun to make them.

Tree buttons!!!!!

My first swap and what a wonderful package from my new friend Wendy!! Full of such lovely things that I.. well, love!!!!!!! Thank you Wendy. I love the William Morris paper and I love the tree buttons...TREE BUTTONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the pictures and the fabric..tree fabric....lovely. And the amazing photo of a tree that Wendys husband, Tim, took. Love, love, love!! Cant wait to use it all! I hope you like yours.
