i have really enjoyed people thoughts and posts on collections since Sharis and Lisas project last week!! I, of course, started thinking of my own...

rocks and stones
little elephants
pods and other found nature pieces
found papers and objects
used stamps
design magazines
tea cups and small jugs
Shelly has her collection of toys from Kinder eggs
and boxes, usually found...and then reused as in the picture above for showing other collections..
planning: a mini-art collection ;)

for me collecting is like a mini obsession...i get quite excited when i find a new piece to add to a collection...i wish we had second hand/thrift shops here...

'castle in the air' in my shop

and a new post on 2 views

...a great week is ahead...:) nothing planned, just a feeling xxx

and yay to newspaper recycling bins in our town!!!!

i took this photo about 9 years ago in the flea market...its a scan of a photo stuck inside an old sketchbook, hence the bad picture but i have a thing for this photo...it looks as if the doll is alive amongst the junk...
Lisas beautiful set of polaroids from an amusement park and inparticular this photo reminded me of mine.. I dont like clowns (or amusement parks but thats another story!) they freak me out... but there is something in their freakyness that somehow attracts me to pictures of them or other things sinister - like decaying roses with their thorns...i like this idea of finding beauty in the 'ugly' or the bad - this contrast makes for good art i think - a good example to explain what on earth im talking about is Lisas inedible cupcake series..
and its also kind of what i was playing with with my rooster series...the not-so-pretty birds with the pretty polka dots...
anyway, just some thoughts and a picture for Lisa :)
Have a wonderful weekend my friends xxx

Do you remember this post? Well, this week i bought myself some yellow roses with the intention of drawing them...but it seems i wasnt quick enough and they died very quickly...

I did photograph them though and like the long lines of the stems and the decaying leaves, shapes and shadows...

And these are some of the recycled plastic bags on their way to Helle in Australia for crocheting...such a great idea!!!!

'in a line' - a new print - a favourite of mine...in the shop

Thank you for such a great response to 2views!! A new word was added today...

happy wednesday everyone :) xxx

Im so excited to tell you about a new collaboration with wonderful Maditi!! A blog called 2views - once a week, we interpret a chosen word using our different mediums...

We already have 2 words and a third will be added this week. Its a great opportunity to collaborate with such a talented photographer and lovely person and to explore different ideas...

I hope you enjoy... :)

Instead of the beach, we planned breakfast in the park with friends...so three families packed up the childrens bikes and drove to Tel Aviv...

We picked up breakfast on the way from a lady who makes traditional Yemenite food in her home...

The weather was perfect and the park wasnt crowded..

this was my view for much of the afternoon...perfect :)

the kids had such a good time too!!

Hope you are all enjoying the spring sun this weekend :)

We began this lesson with a drawing of Stephs doll. A very nice line drawing..

I then wanted to explain to Yuval a little further the concept of 3-d. After drawing the toy train last time i noticed she was a little confused... so i asked her to draw a rectangular shaped tin that i put in front of her...

After a second drawing of the tin and going through how it was built, we discussed tones of colour...i asked Yuval to draw a scale of red dots from very dark to very light and to then take the two end colours and the middle one and colour in the tin.

We talked about warm and cool colours...

And then i gave her several pieces of coloured card and asked her to cut out different sized squares from them...and told her to mix them up and stick them down in different groupings of colour - i wanted to demonstrate how we see colours differently depending on their context. Yuval enjoyed cutting and sticking and instantly understood what i was trying to show her...

I think Yuval enjoyed the variety of exercises in this lesson.

Wishing everyone a great weekend..we are considering a trip to the beach.. and next week the introduction of a new collaboration!!!!!!!

Despite strikes and very strange post men...i actually received some post this week...:) After reaching Israel and meeting the strange post men this parcel once decided to go back to England...but not this time...

Sweet Kellys box of presents arrived safely - i just knew that her handmade work would be beautiful - pictures do not do them justice. In the box were some chocolate eggs for my girls, magazine cuttings, a collection of songs that suit me down to the ground, some stamps (love used stamps!!) a gorgeous bookmark and a beautiful soft bag...

...a home for this stunning pear - such a treasured piece made by Kellys talented grandfather - such a touching gesture - thank you so much Kelly!!!

And a fantastic zine and lovely stamps from Louise and Gracia - thanks so much - it will come in very handy!!! and so will the stamps :)

Today we are visiting florentine...a neigbourhood in south tel aviv!! A vibrant, run-down and very cool area - full of colour, noise and life!!!!!! We had breakfast there this morning and i could have sat in the cafe all day!!!

Have a great week everyone!!

I cant believe one year has passed so quickly.. i remember tentatively beginning this blog...wandering where it was going to take me and i had no idea how amazing the journey was going to be. The biggest gratification is the connections with like-minded, fantastic people...how often have i been writing an email or comment to someone, only to find they were writing to me on the other side of the world at the same time. How often have i been thinking about a certain subject and then it appears on another friends blog. When i watch David Attenborough, i think of Gracia and Louise...the colour turquoise makes me think of Kelly. Green pods make me think of Cally. When i think of ceramics, Paula comes to mind. Books make me think of Shari ...and the list goes on...
Each talented and inspiring person in our community seems to have something special and unique to offer, making my daily visits around the world such a joy..
i have made some wonderful, friends for which i am so so so grateful and am really happy that you are all part of my life. Sometimes i feel so frustrated when i cant meet up over a cup of coffee or breakfast ;) but two of my very good friends, from the very beginning of this blog, are planning a visit here later this year - i cant wait to meet them, although i feel like i have known them for years!!
After living here for over 12 years and using little English...my mother tongue has reclaimed its use - (i still get tongue-tied and find it hard to express myself the way i talk to myself in my head!!)
A collaboration is in the works with a much loved and admired blog friend, a few projects are planned and a return to my drawing journal...
Today its friday 13th which i see as good luck...i want to say thank you so much for all of your visits, comments, emails, messenger chats, swaps, presents and friendships...i look forward to the year ahead xxx
The painting above is from a new series available soon...roots, nourishment, home, place... seems fitting :)

more on flickr ...

well, its the last day of colour week and it has been fantastic!!!! So many new people to meet and colours all around, different interpretations of each colour, words and thoughts or just being quiet with images - it really makes me look around at my 'everyday'... thank you all for joining in and for making this colour party a lot of fun!

I will be back later as today means one year of blogging for me... a celebratory post is in order :)
