This weekend Rami bought home a bunch of yellow roses...hhmm..i suddenly realised i dont actually like roses..i dont know... theres something sinister about them..maybe its the thorns..
but i do like the way they decay - the way the petals curl up and turn colour and how the leaves shrivel up... So, yesterday morning i sat down with a cup of tea and a visit from the sun and started drawing the roses - simple line drawings -

how i love line drawings...the simplicity of them...

Have a fabulous week!!

love these drawings!! you made the roses look like very sensitive flowers :-)

I have the same thing with roses, I do like the flowery part but I don't like the rest of it. I guess the branch is to rough-harsh.
Hope to see more of these drawings!! *daphne

for some reason i´ve been hearing a lot of people express their dislike for roses lately. i´m with lisa, i kind of like them for their "sinisterness." but i especially like your drawings of them. just lovely.

Great line drawings, Julie. Roses blooming in the garden, a riot of colour, full heads of petals... or cut and enjoyed indoors - love 'em. Not a particular favourite flower, though I do love their old world charm.
    happy drawing, grache

    love your line work.

why do people like receiving flowers? It is a strange concept when we think about it. All we do is put them in a vase of water and watch them die. Then we have to throw them out because they make such a mess and the water gets smelly!

that said, I still like the odd bunch of flowers. i have bushes of gardenias flowering at the moment..the scent is magnificent.

Oh, Julie, there are a lot roses that don't look any sinister. I like the ones with many small blossoms on one stem, multicoloured and sweet smelling. And many fabrics with rose prints look nice, too!
And, by the way, your drawings look beautiful!
