...winter has finally arrived!!!

2007 has nearly begun...lots of thinking going on...and here are some of the resolutions i came up with for the new year ;) ...
~ to find time to start reading again...
~ to 'waste' less time and make more of everday :) ...
~ to create and try and sell my work on a regular basis...
~ to go to more exhibitions...
~ to have more patience...
~ to find a way of giving back more/volunteer work...
~ to continue being optimistic and enjoy life...yeah!!!!!!
~ oh and maybe to eat less cakes...maybe not!

Wishing everyone a fantastical 2007... (fireworks..fireworks..)

Contemplating 2007 on the balcony with tea and cake...

Today, Yuval chose what she wanted to draw for the life drawing at the beginning of the lesson...she chose an old paper mache model of mine - a tall figure. She did the first drawing and i asked her to add the shadow - tall, that went up the wall...

she got a little confused and started another drawing...

...this time adding the shadow in a pretty accurate way. Its so interesting to see how their minds work and a lot of the time want to draw what they 'think' it should be and not what they actually see!

Then we changed direction, and i took out these pictures of Geargia O'Keefe to show Yuval.

I told Yuval how O'Keefe is especially known for her use of organic forms in her work and we talked a little about the word organic.. she liked the paintings i showed her.
I then bought in an ivy plant and asked her to try and draw it. She was a little overwhelmed by the idea in the beginning and i changed the task to drawing a part of the plant. I asked her to press down hark when she saw shade/dark colour and lightly when she saw light/light colour.
I love the way she got the curve of the leaves. Although she was a little worried in the beginning, she quite enjoyed the drawing in the end.

well...i see you are all beginning your holidays..some travelling to visit family, others staying at home enjoying some quiet time...whatever youre doing, i would like to say to you all...have a wonderful holiday, eat, drink and be very merry!!!

Here are some of my 2006 loves...

~ beginning my blog and discovering all of you wonderful, talented, inspiring friends... such amazing connections xxx ~

So looking forward to meeting many of you at Risa's tea party on the 12th :) and a '2007 resolutions' post on the way... ;)

A teapot was the subject for drawing today...i actually LOVE this part of the lesson - its so relaxing and I really enjoy the concentration and progression each week! This is Yuvals first drawing...

And then i asked her to do another one - it happens every week and every time she does a second drawing she notices more details - this is wonderful.. I think she did a fantastic drawing with the angle of the spout and the shadow.
We then went on to do some potato printing - we started some last week and continued today but again there wasnt enough time..Yuval drew some shapes on some potato halves and i cut them out for her. She really enjoyed mixing and playing with the paint. We experimented together and printed...

Then i asked her to make a picture from the stamps... she drew a tree and wanted to print flowers and leaves and butterflies...

Lots of fun!!

Rami and I have been joking recently at how we should be hired as "breakfast reviewers' of the area!! When we lived in Tel Aviv, it was our special thing every friday morning to try out a new place for breakfast...and since we have lived in this area we have moved from one coffee shop to another trying out the different places.

They are not the standard of Tel Aviv, it happens on free mornings - not necessarily on fridays and we now have at least of the girls in tow - making it a completely diffferent experience!

Without realising it, we found ourselves comparing the different breakfasts we met...not just the food but we had a list of important points... atmosphere, quality of the food, freshness, uniqueness, quality of the coffee (Rami's big point!!) service, and prices and we were pretty disappointed......and then we found this place - 5 minutes drive from our apartment, a rural setting with greenhouse skeletons and lemons, passion fruit and olives growing on the trees outside...

Ok, so its not TA...you cant people watch here and enjoy the different colours of the city but the food is wonderful, the quality is really good, it has a lovely country atmosphere and the coffee is up to standard (apparently)!!

So it seems, this is now our regular haunt for free mornings... wish you could join us :)

(Sorry about the poor photos..i was going to scrap them but they actually capture the place perfectly.)

on our way home today...

the nature shelf has filled up with many beauties...

my friend who is travelling in india sent me these beautiful henna stensils...

lighting the candles for the first night of chanukah...chag sameach Risa and anyone else celebrating!

have a very happy one friends :)

This week was started drawing a small jug with a dried flower inside... I can see that Yuval is looking at the still life so much more closely now while she draws!! After the first drawing..we looked at it together and talked about certain points - how the handle was unusally low on the jug and she had drawn it at the top and how because the jug is round, the bottam of it doesnt go straight across...and then i asked her to draw it again!! I really love this part of the lesson - as we do it every week, i can see the changes - in Yuval and her drawings.

This time Yuval drew the handle in the right place and drew a curve at the bottam of the jug.
We missed last weeks lesson, so today was a double. As its the first night of Chanukah tomorrow and wanting to carry on the subject of shadow from last time..i came up with the idea of a 'shadow box' with a menorah. I took a box i had kept from one of my swaps (; and asked Yuval to draw a menorah on the side. I then cut it up for her (safety reasons) and she then covered it in siver foil.
She added yellow and orange paper at the top for the flames and we covered the sides of the box in blue paper.

Yuval also made a card for her family using potato stamps which we touched on very quickly! We will continue with printing.

It was a very enjoyable lesson!!

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments on my last post...

I have been writing my blog since April..not that long...but in this short space of time, i have made some really wonderful friends. One of the frustrating things about blogging is being so far from everyone and not being able to meet...although i will meet some of you one day i do enjoy conversations on Messenger, emails, swaps and of course wonderful comments!! Yesterday i read Gracia's lovely post - it made me think about how we get so much out of the fact that in our blog community we live in such varied countries!!!
We dont celebrate Christmas here but i am so enjoying all of your posts leading up to christmas - lovely handmade decorations, festive foods and thoughts, I almost feel i will be celebrating with you!!! I wish you all a very happy Christmas (and the lead up to it)...egg nog and all!!!!

One of the first friends i made through my blog is Wendy - we just clicked from the beginning and have since become very close! Today I received this beautiful handmade bag from Wendy for my birthday!!! Of course she also included some goodies...THANK YOU lovely Wendy!!!!

I found this leaf and the above flower on the way home from picking up Shelly today. The flower looked so beautiful lying on the pavement alone...and i love the rusty look of the leaf...

Happy Tuesday!!

Today we went on a fantastic trip to Ein Gedi - by the dead sea.

8 families...lots of energy...a shining sun...plenty of laughter...a well planned picnic...stunning views...smiling kids...paddling in the streams...climbing mountains...beautiful colours and textures...collecting treasures of nature...just what we needed...a perfect day!!

Sometimes i think of things in the form of images or colours...when i think of November, i think of the colour purple...november is purple...

In Israel, the rain usually begins in november...so when i started thinking about how i would design the month of november for Marianne's calendar swap...i kept coming up with purple rain.

Now youre probably thinking about Prince's song from the 80's...but when i looked it up, the connotations werent so good ;)...or maybe you are thinking about the book by Alice Walker..

...in the end i just went with my intuition and produced this set of collages...

I like how some of them came out looking like winter jumpers in their texture!

happy thursday everyone!!
