Im still sketching..but wanted to share with you one of my favourite painters. Her name is Paula Rego. She is from Portugal. I fell in love with her about 13 years ago after seeing the above picture in a gallery in London. (If anyone knows where or how I can buy this as a poster I would be so grateful!) For me, the paintings have such strength in the lines.. so vivid..with some fantastic story behind them.

I really like these, they seem so original, the posture of the people and the story, the colours.
    Thanks for sharing!

You know so many artists. All of them produce lovely work.

That's exactly how Paula Rego works, i.e., paints, as you may know: from a theme, a matter, even a social issue, she goes on «telling» different stories you can easily «read» and understand. A few monyhs ago I had the opportunity of watching a great deal of her work in her own country, as she's been living in London since the 60's, I believe.
Curiously enough, you've posted some of her paintings I like best. Hence this comment. We love her here! Thank you very much!

Paula Rego is one of my favourite contemporary painters as well. I'm attracted to the misteries behind the stories in the paintings. Some are based on portuguese childhood stories but with a twist usually a social interpretation of it and I love the colours she uses and the dramatic light.
Do you know she works (or at least she used to)in a closed room with no windows, I think a basement in London, under artificial light all the time?
I saw a programme about her years ago where they showed the way and the conditions she worked and you could understand better that her paintings are very much from her interior rather than the physical surroundings playing much in it.
