I have spent the best part of the last week working in the 'studio'..this is unusual for me, usually preferring the dining table but i have been working with clay. I have my computer on one wall and my work table on the opposite wall...Weather-wise, it has been grey and dreary and with plenty of cups of tea and lots of positive energy i found myself wanting to be in there all of the time. No music, just me and my thoughts..
I started making pods...a small one to begin with..but growing larger as my confidence grew...you never know what will happen in the firing process (the smeg in my case!!) are there any air bubbles inside? have i made enough air-holes so that it doesnt blow up in the oven? Will it crack where the clay is too thin? I got to a stage where i began to not care so much if the piece didnt survive the heat. Making them, forming the medium, enjoying the drying time, carving away at the form before it was completely dry..was just so wonderful and i am learning a lot about how the medium behaves...
I was thinking a lot about Amishas words on the subject...instinct...the process..
Amisha is talking about work on the wheel but working with clay in any way is so intuitive, unpredictable, so earthy... Amisha puts her thoughts into words so much better than me but in the end, i decided to work with the medium, become friends with it, learns its secrets and more than anything, enjoy the experience!

My pods are nothing special but i have had a great week playing :)

poor shelly was home all week with a tummy virus..not so nice but we spent some time together in the studio playing with clay...i made a new pod and shelly created some small shapes which she will paint and turn into fridge magnets...today she went back to nursery...

i seem to have a lot of creative energy this last week and actually feel like locking myself in the studio for a couple of days...some peace and quiet, alone...oh well..ive been creating tiles..a lot of them cracking in the oven...part of the process...

our weekend starts this evening...hope yours is a good one. xxx

...not as yummy as kellys honey cake or as sweet as lisas beautiful cupcakes or as tasty as amishas banana bread or as golden as stephs cornmeal biscuits ... but they are waiting to go into the oven...
some more wall jewellery tiles drying in the sun

i was playing around with some clay and came up with this pod-form - this is after about 24 hours when it has dried out significantly - i LOVE carving the dry clay...for me its definitely the best part of the process...

and here she is sun bathing...

so very theraputic...
happy week to you :)

Also, especially British, jew·el·ler·y.

I love hanging pieces of art and crafts on the wall..the idea of dressing-up ones home...creating a unique space which represents ones personality...small jewels of drama and decoration..maybe theatre...
... this is how i came up with the idea of wall jewellery...

i have several ideas for pieces and love using this domestic oven fired clay...im enjoying the idea of texture and detail...and colour and the imperfect handmade look...

a line is in the making for my shop...
