This lesson began with a study of one of my small pod sculptures :)

I then showed Yuval this picture
Ivy in flower by Matisse and we talked about shapes and the space around them...it seems quite hard for small children to grasp the idea of negative space..
I then went on to show Yuval these pictures...which when turned upside down also show either the same picture in the opposite colour or a very similiar picture..it was hard for Yuval to see the upside down picture without me pointing it out.
After having some fun with these i gaved Yuval a large piece of white paper and some black paper and i asked her to create a picture whilst thinking of the negative space..

I love what was created and Yuval seems to be more free in her work..i realy like the path with the house at the end and how she cut out the windows and door which are the negative space...

I can see that the negative-space concept is a difficult one to grasp. I love what Yuval did with the paper-cuts, there's a lot of detail there.

I love the little leaves on the ground cut out from the tree. You're teaching her well but I can see she also has a lot of creative talent, just like her mum!

it has been so fascinating to follow your art lessons with yuval, and see her grow and learn. the negative space concept is so difficult and her final piece really seems to grasp it! and i love the pod drawing of course :)
