Some more inspiration in the lead up to colour week... here is Shellys first self portrait...just amazing...the shapes in the sky is actually rain in different forms - hearts included...beautiful!!... there are 2 grey clouds which were a sign of this rain...the flower shapes on the hands and feet are bracelets and the pink shapes in the grass are "fat caterpillars"!
I love how the sun and sky are not typically yellow and blue - i always encourage Shelly to draw whatever she feels...no rules!!
I havent been around much this week due to my parents visiting - they seem to have brought with them the weather from London :( so fun trips with them are limited...
I was lucky to receive some treats...
- my favourite mags with lots of gorgeousness inside...
- a wonderful drawing pad for the computer...
- teabags from the UK supermarkets - so much stronger than Israeli tea :)
- a tripod...
Its so nice to get unexpected presents :)We are talking about going to london in the summer and sometime during our stay, to leave the girls with my parents and go for a few days to either paris or ireland...hhmmm..im leaning towards ireland...where would you go? :)
oh and Shellys latest drawing...so wonderful!!

i love my girls and having first experiences with them...
i am dreaming of ceramics classes...
i want to be more focused with my work and produce 'to the end'...
i am so enjoying creating for my etsy shop - monday 8th is the re-opening...
i want to feel totally free with a pen/pencil in my hand...
i love the special connections i have with my friends...
i love collecting and using 'found papers' - from the inside of envelopes to ikea instruction booklets...
i really want to work with wire and paper and enjoy detail and organic texture...
i am waiting for spring and its smiles...
i love spending time on my own...

i am very frustrated by lack of time...
i want to move...
i love our breakfast outings and weekend trips with friends...
i am desperate for my new computer screen...(i cant see anything - problem with the brightness)
i love peeking behind the scenes...

on another note...thank you for recent goodies in the post from gracia (love this post) and louise for their beautiful lady and from babelfish and her kind gift and for all of the the calendar pages...
...and i have started a blog for shelly's art...still got to work on the graphic side but i love the idea that her work will be documented. Its called 'mine' because thats the meaning of Shelly in hebrew...

Yesterday, Shelly had a friend round to play and they sat drawing for a while..I love to peek from the side and see what they do while they chat away...and this is what Shelly drew...i instantly fell in love with this drawing...it seems to have such intensity..like she was really trying to say something...look how that tree is firmly rooted to the ground as opposed to the house..so colourful and soaring..Of course, her friend Tomer told her that "you cant draw houses flying in the sky!!" and of course i quickly jumped in and said "its absolutely fine to draw houses flying in the sky!!"
It reminds me of Chagall's paintings...and also made me think of Shelly and how sometimes she seems to be in another world...flying...

Im not sure if anyone noticed but i just took my biggest break from posting...we had a fantastic time camping (apart from the heat!) great friends, good food, an inflatable mattress and a great 4th birthday celebration for Shelly.. i cant wait for the next trip!!Although ive been taking a 'time out' to recharge the old batteries, I have some love links from my web travels...

I was so fired up by my visit to the flea market last week...i decided to make a collection to exhibit somewhere... so im in the middle of creating...
We are in the middle of holiday season here and have another holiday coming up on Friday - Sukkot - here is a drawing Shelly did of the sukkah from above!!! i love it!

Today is Shelly's 4th birthday...i cant believe 4 years have flown by so quickly!!!!!!!!!!!! I decided to stop showing pictures of the girls on the web...so here is a drawing Shelly did yesterday..a couple of trees, a pink bird and a green flying machine (??!!) - perfect for a dedication to my beautiful baby.
Shelly, we love you up to the moon and back, always and forever. May you be as happy and free as your beautiful pink bird. With love xxx
A special birthday party will be taking place this weekend on a camping trip we are taking with some friends...looking forward to it!!
About 12 years ago, i finished my degree in interior design at chelsea college of art & design (God, Im old!!). I think I should have chosen sculpture or textile design...but what did i know at the age of 18 - what i was going to do with my life, what path to follow...i digress... one of my tutors there - Peter Stickland - wrote this great essay - which has always stuck in my mind and which i kept until today. I would like to quote a little from the section that talks about Narrative, Sequence and Memory - (with regards to interior architecture)...
"We will return to making the user of buildings the focus of our attention and regard their walk through interior architecture as an event, a subtle engaging journey of change and celebration. The event is carried by a narrative and it is not essential for the designer to declare what that narrative is. It could be fanciful, describe the function of the building or be descriptive of a social reasoning. We do not need to choose a story on the basis that it can be decoded by the visitor, for the story is converted into the material of the architecture and it is this which picks up and carries the narrative. This concept is similar to Hitchcock's notion of the 'MacGuffin' , which is a concept responsible only for starting the narrative and in some manner containing it. The 'MacGuffin' was Hitchcock's term for an 'apparent narrative excuse', which is, he claimed, ' absolutely necessary but completely unimportant.' He never began a film without one."
Sorry if that was a little heavy for a Monday night...but i have been thinking recently how i use my 'MacGuffin' in my artwork. Whether its a painting or a sculpture, it seems i nearly always have a 'MacGuffin'. If i dont, then in my eyes, the piece doesnt work...its meaningless...there has to be a story..some kind of journey...
Shelly, on the other hand, changes her 'MacGuffin' as she feels!...

fireworks by Shelly Its that time...i have reached my hundreth post!!! I tried to think of something special to do...but nothing came to mind. By the way, for other Blogger users - i moved over to Beta a couple of days ago and its actually pretty good. There are a few drawbacks still - i.e. linking to flickr, but im sure it will be improved soon.
With the decision of creating a 'nature wall' - a wall made up of many small pieces of art which are linked to nature - it has given me some much needed focus...it allows me to explore different ideas and mediums and makes up an ongoing collection...
So far i have finished 2 'new species' and started a couple of other pieces..but here is the next finished piece for the wall...
it is made up of layers and layers of papers and drawings...i really enjoyed creating it because its unpredictable... its ...erosion, weather, wear, layers, texture, strata, time...
- like poster-boards which have many layers of old posters or layers of wallpaper, the colours, textures, history...i am very excited about exploring this idea further!!!

Today, 21st June, the longest day of the year, my beautiful baby Ella is one years old. I cant believe the time has flown by so quickly!!!!!! Here are 10 things you probably dont know about my little one...- Ella is a species of tree in Israel ( thats not the reason we named her Ella!) and also it means 'Goddess' in Hebrew
- She weighed 3.8 kilos when she was born!
- She loves "Itsy Bitsy Spider"
- I nursed her successfully for 5 months (Yeah!!)
- Her best friend is her sister Shelly
- She sleeps 12 hours at night!!!
- She is always smiling
- She enjoys pulling mine and Shellys hair!!
- She started walking at 10.5 months, and is now running!
- She loves music
Here is the picture Shelly drew for her sister - obviously its a cake with Ella and all her family, candles and colourful balloons!!
After 6 days of having a high fever, Shelly was feeling better today. She said she wanted to paint. I asked her to do a painting of children, trees and flowers and this is what she did.
The trees are at the top and the children at the bottam. I asked her where the flowers were and she replied "they havent grown yet"!!!
